Kuber and Ganesh

Kuber was the richest of all, he was very proud of the fact. He wanted to boast about his wealth by inviting all the gods and goddesses for a feast so that he could show off his palace and the wealth he possessed. He invited everyone and lastly went to Kailash to invite lord shiva and Parvati.

Kuber’s Invite:

Shiva was omniscient and knew Kuber’s intentions, so he politely declined the invitation and said that his younger son Ganesh would honor the invitation and would come for the feast. He also told Kuber about Ganesh’s huge belly. Ganesh was also called Lambodar which means a person with a huge belly. But Kuber didn’t flench a little as he was very proud of his wealth. He thought that he had so much that he could easily feed Ganesh.

The day of the feast came, Ganesh went to Kuber’s palace and was given a very royal welcome. He was served with delicious meals which included sweets and dishes of every taste. One by one Ganesh finished them all, Kuber then ordered the chef to cook more food for him. After a while, all the ration in the Kuber’s kitchen was finished.

He then went to borrow some food to save himself from the embarrassment of not being able to feed a child. But Ganesh didn’t stop and he started eating utensils, furniture almost everything he could grab his hands on. Kuber then requested him to wait but Ganesh warned him to serve him delicious food or else he would eat Kuber himself.

Kuber learned his lesson:

He learned his lesson and understood why Ganesh behaved like that. He then went straight ahead to Kailash and apologized to Shiva and asked him for his help. Shiva then asked Parvati to give him a bowl of sweet rice and told him that this would satisfy Ganesh’s hunger. He then fed Ganesh with sweet rice and then Ganesh’s hunger was satisfied.

Moral:

Never boast about your wealth, even if you have everything.
